Of course, now it looks like Walgreens has declared the war over. I can't help but wonder what new hell we can expect with this buy out. Eight packaged-food aisles and one for skin care, Advil, tampons, and everything else?

Thanks for your comment, Dee. Good to know the results of their training lasted a week. I guess we missed that happy window. But I wonder if the staff would have been able to find anything in the store that you couldn't locate yourself? Probably just a case of parroting overly formal service language without the service follow-up. Shall we test them next time?

The DR on Broadway & Grand is next door to my office, and I patronize it regularly. The best aspects of this store are because of the building – high ceilings and large windows, which lend an airy feel, as does the angled placement of the cosmetics aisles. However, as the author described above, the cashiers are typical of every other Duane Reade in the city – surly, rude, unhelpful, and they act like they're doing you a favor if they actually ring up your purchase. What's funny is that when the store first opened, the employees had obviously been coached to be friendly because they all actually gave *eye contact* and were pleasant and jovial, and asked if you'd found everything you needed during your visit. This lasted about one week, and soon enough the nasty dispositions surfaced. As far as the skincare consultant(s) in the white lab coat, she's only there sporadically, the upscale French brands are shoved into a corner and look off-putting, so I would never come to think of Duane Reade as a place to buy higher-end cosmaceutical products.
