as a yoga addict, I’ve practiced in many settings, but being in NATURE is my favorite place. Be it Vieques PR, Mexico, Costa Rico, Central Park, ~ you name it~ nothing compares to the quality of doing savasana being cradled by earth.
Alex, congratulations on your success! I opened Cobble Hill Yoga a few months ago on the parlor floor of my brownstone. I offer an invigorating vinyasa practice followed by deep relaxation and meditation. New Student Special: 3 classes/$30. All levels welcome!
I just stumbled upon this today. As a NYC resident, I have yet to practice in a private home or apartment, and would love to try that out one day! I do have to say in defense of Pure Yoga, they have some AMAZING teachers. Sure, you see a ton of Lululemon and workout-yoga types, but that does not mean we aren’t there first and foremost for the spiritual connectedness and discipline that true yoga demands. In fact, I just wrote a great post today about one of Pure’s teachers who has literally transformed my life with his teachings in and outside the studio: http://lifestylerepublic.com/2010/08/12/taking-yoga-beyond-the-mat/
I think we can all agree that no matter where the class is held, the teacher and student’s intentions make all the difference.
Teaching Yoga out of your West Village apartment just seems much more sensible than having to rent studio space or follow another gym’s schedule. Alex has a great idea. I’m curious as to what the liability risks are, though.
Thanks for this post. I’ve been interested in this studio for a while and now I’m definitely going to try!
