Good Escapes
Wellness Weekend: The Healthy Hamptons
This weekend a bumper crop of beloved NYC wellness institutions—like Organic Avenue and Flywheel Sports—opens in the Hamptons. They’ll be joining the landscape of established fitness-focused city outposts like Soul Cycle and Exhale.
The City Bakery or Il Laboratorio del Gelato might have moved East. But instead, the number of healthy transplants—and a few homegrown openings, like the remodeled Naturopathica Spa—tells us that conscious living (and not iced hot chocolate) is top of mind for New Yorkers at the beach.
Read carefully, because love it or hate it, there’s a good chance you’ll end up in the Hamptons at some point this summer.
Spinning
Flywheel Sports, Sag Harbor
Flywheel, which opened two city locations in the last six months, set up a studio in Sag Harbor with its signature stadium seating and technology package, plus added perks such as soothing water views and hammocks for a post-spin siesta. 1 Bay Street, Sag Harbor, 212-242-9433, www.flywheelsports.com
Bar Workout
Nalini Method, Sag Harbor
Rupa Mehta created this killer bar method-style class using her training from the Lotte Berk Studio, Yoga Works, Yin Yoga, and Baron Baptiste. Spa
Naturopathica Holistic Health Spa, East Hampton
Apothecary chic: That’s the look of the newly remodeled 4,000 sq-ft spa, and flagship of the pioneering natural beauty brand, founded by Barbara Close, which reopens this weekend. In addition to treatment rooms (and master massage therapists), it now has an Apothecary Bar for custom blended beauty products and a Be Well Boutique filled with eco-luxe items. Red Horse Plaza, 74 Montauk Hwy., East Hampton, 631-329-2525, www.naturopathica.com
Yoga and massage
Hamptons Yoga Healing Arts, Westhampton Beach
Vinyasa yogi, Abby Vakay, opened this homegrown studio with massage therapist Jaimee Young. Together, with other healers and yogis, they’ll be offering everything from acupuncture and energetic healing to hatha and ashtanga. And there’s a dock where you can literally boat in, or, more likely, sun bathe after sun salutations. 8 Moniebogue Lane, Westhhampton Beach, www.abbyvakay.com
Food
Organic Avenue, Southampton
Perhaps the most glamorous location of the burgeoning NYC raw food-and-juice empire opens this weekend. All the better to get Hamptonites set up on their inaugural summer juice cleanse. A wall of refrigerators stock the best-selling green juice and other varieties, and the shop will carry vegan snacks and Intelligent Nutrients, the rigorously organic beauty range created by Horst Rechelbacher. 28 Jobs Lane, Southampton, 631-283-2600, www.organicavenue.com
