RIP: Kombucha?
Turns out Whole Foods is pulling kombucha, the popular fermented tea, from its stores, says the New York Times. Conversations between the store and several kombucha manufacturers revealed that the “elevated” alcohol content of the popular health tonic may be high enough (0.5 percent) to warrant a government warning label. And a martini glass.
Gawker is completely upset that the $5 “hippy” beverages have been yanked from stores. And readers of the gossip site wasted no time drumming up Kombucha-flavor analogies: From “a dead man’s fart” to “a wine cooler left in a hot car” (that was actually Tina Fey’s comment on “Letterman”).
While there are 209 Whole Foods stores affected by this decision, many of the New Yorkers who love Kombucha, love it enough to make their own, Well+Good reported. And given that the health benefits of the popular skunky potable far outweigh that of microbrewed beer, the other popular skunky potable, it might also find some new fans.
Now I know why everyone liked that stuff so much. They were getting drunk! So much for those niyamas. I personally could never get on the Kombuch bandwagon. No amount of fruity flavor could cover up that rankness. RIP.
You cant get drunk from drinking Kombucha… youd have to drink like 15 bottles…
I blame the FDA… Kombucha Tea is an alkaline producing beverage. Most people have very acidic bodies. Disease and cancer can NOT live nor survive in an alkaline state. You drink Kombucha to improve your PH. On the flip side, the FDA is a criminal institution that ensures that pharmaceutical companies have enough sick people to sell their legal and patented drugs to. They do this by helping food companies promote dead food. You can not patent what comes from nature only what comes from a lab. They do not want people to be able to buy food and beverages with nutrition in them. The FDA is a joke. Pasteurization kills essential enzymes.
Why can I buy beer, wine and MOUTHWASH but not a fermented tea?
Mouthwash has a higher alcohol content and people do drink that!! but I guess if big PILL COMPANIES can’t put their high priced name on it then they will make sure the FDA doesn’t let anyone else sell it.
I love it and miss it. Will it ever come back??
I’m still able to buy it at small natural groceries. Let me know if you need some leads!
yet a child can walk into 7 11 and buy a Red Bull or Rock Star energy drink?!?!?!?
