Eat, Pray, Love–the fragrance? Groan.
Yes, Elizabeth Gilbert’s sensual memoir Eat, Pray, Love definitely evoked the sights, sounds, and even smells of the places she visited. But did the movie-makers really need to commission promotional fragrances?
Fresh, the once-indie company now owned by LVMH, is coming out with three fragrances to tie-in with the movie. Fresh also launched a fragrance for the movie Memoirs of a Geisha several years ago.
Let’s leave the movie tie-in merchandise to Toy Story and Shrek. Eat, Pray, Love is all about casting off your possessions, obligations, and taking to the open road, unencumbered by crap, to find yourself. In keeping with the spirit of the movie, I’ll save my $32 (cost per fragrance).
I totally get that this is over the top marketing – and I’m one of the few people on the planet I think who didn’t especially like the book (sorry!) But if the fragrance is interesting, I wouldn’t discount it. Have you smelled the fragrances??
