Barre Obsession trend: Win a ten-pack of classes at Physique 57
Well+Good’s Trendy Giveaway: 10 Days of Wellness, With 10 Healthy Prizes
This contest is now closed! White-hot barre workouts dominate New York City’s boutique fitness scene. Although they’re now the height of fashion (especially with the Black Swan dancer-body craze), Physique 57 has been making New Yorkers point and flex, and squat and shake, for their long, lean muscles since 2006.
Founded by Tanya Becker and Jennifer Maanavi, the first studio on 57th Street quickly expanded with SoHo and Hamptons locations and more recently to Los Angeles and top spas nationwide.
In honor of our Barre Obsession Trend, one lucky Well+Good Reader will win a 10 pack of classes to Physique 57 for use at the 57th Street or Spring Street locations. The retail value of this prize is $300.
To enter to win this one-day giveaway, use the Comments area, below, to tell us what you think of barre classes and whether you’ve tried one. Increase your chances of winning by Friending us on Facebook or following us on Twitter. Giveaway ends at midnight tonight EST. The winner will be chosen at random and announced here tomorrow.
Check back tomorrow when we feature the Vegan Vogue and Gluten-Free For All Wellness Trend by giving away an $100 gift certificate to Candle 79!
Great giveaway! I absolutely love barre classes and credit them with completely transforming my body and the way I view myself and my life. They gave me strength that I never knew I could have and helped with confidence issues. They turned me into someone who sometimes exercised because she thought she had to into someone who always exercises because she now truly loves it. There is no feeling like the one I get immediately after a barre class — content and at peace and energized all at the same time. I follow you and Twitter and am your friend on Facebook!
Although I have never tried a barre class, I did see Black Swan and since then have been obsessed with the desire to point on some point shoes and pretend to be a ballerina. These classes would take my strange obsession to a healthier place!
Great giveaway! I’ve been dying to try more barre method classes since I was a dancer my whole life. I recently tried out Refine Method and loved feeling the burn in a totally different way than I was used to. I’d love to try out Physique 57, which I have always considered to be the “cream of the crop” when it comes to these types of classes.
I love taking barre classes. I’ve done core fusion and the bar method.
I followed you on twitter and retweeted the giveaway!
I have never tried a barre class but have heard amazing things. thanks for hosting this giveaway!
The physique 57 barre method has unbelievable results – when you think of working out, this method gets me energized and excited! The music and the instructors are incredible, creating in-sync movements with the tempo and isometric workout techniques that target muscles I didn’t even know I had. Although it is the winter, I like to take care of my body by staying healthy physically, trying new workouts, and by eating healthy as well. Physique 57 – i need you in my life! :-)
During my first class I thought ‘why in the world would I put myself through this?” However, the feeling I have after the class hooked me for life! I love the way I feel after working through a barre class, and that feelings has transcended into other aspects of my life, including not only physical but emotional well being. I view life more positively!
I’ve done ballet classes, and have been wanting to try a barre class to see how they compare. Would love to win this awesome prize!
I love barre classes! As someone who always looked to running as a form of exercise, when I got injured training for the NYC marathon I had to look for another way to get the same benefits. I felt like running was the only way to really stay in shape. When I tried the barre classes I realized I was completely wrong and now am fully hooked – my primary form of exercise is now these classes!

Great giveaway! I love barre classes! I’ve found that they push me to keep working harder than I ever thought I could imagine. They’ve helped me learn to keep pushing through things even if it feels harder than I’d like it too.
I *LOVE* barre-based classes. I used to take workout at the Bar Method locations on CT and I miss it. A lot. These sorts of classes really put you through the paces and work out muscle groups in ways that no other exercise can.
I have never experienced a barre class but have also wanted to take one given how close I live to the Soho location of Physique. Also, Kelly Ripa swears by this place and she has the best energy. I plan on taking a class soon to see what all the excitement is about!
Is this one of those New Year’s resolution classes I should try? Because it does sound challenging to me.
I have never tried any barre classes as of yet but Ive been reading such positive results that I would to experience what it’s all about
I’ve never been athletic. Physique 57 is the only work out that motivates me. This is the first time I’ve stuck to an exercise regimen for longer than half a year!
I’ve never tried Barre classes, but have wanted to for a year now. This would be the perfect New Year’s exercise jumpstart!
I love barre classes and have been looking for good ones since moving to NYC! This giveaway is the perfect motivation I need to check P57 out in person!
I have yet to take a P57 class and have heard such great things about the overall transformation it can make on your body. I have had the chance to take other barre classes in the past 2 months and I can see the difference in the way the muscles feel when being worked. I was debating buying the P57 DVD’s and was thinking a class would be important to take first to make sure that I have all of the alignment and the method proper.
I have not taken any barre classes yet. I took ballet classes for 10 years as a child, and really want to get back into it!
I’ve never tried a barre class, but my former-ballet-dancing friends all swear by them. And I’d love those toned legs…
Love this giveaway and Physique 57! The interval training and the instructors push me beyond what I thought was physically possible.
I used to take Physique 57 classes…. and think that Tanya is one of the most amazing instructors in the city. I would love to be able to go back and take a few more classes in this awesome method.
I have a new found love and respect for barre classes after trying Exhale Core Fusion, Bar Method and Fluidity over the past few months. I would like to incorporate these more regularly into my fitness routine and have been eager to try Physique 57. Barre workouts leave me much more sore than an hour of weight and resistance training on my own.
Barre classes are terrific. I’ve been doing them for 2 1/2 years and have no plans to stop. The only workout I’ve ever experienced that gets harder the more you go! I particularly love Bar Method (the new Soho studio is amazing, as are teacher/owners Amy and Kristin).
I’ve been dying to take a Physique 57 class but haven’t been able to afford them!!
I’ve tried a few barre classes and love them. I went for two weeks straight once and noticed a big difference. I’d love to try the famous Physique 57!
I’m obsessed with Barre classes! I always leave feeling like I’ve had the best workout. One of the things I love most about Barre classes is the way my legs shake from the exercises (if you’ve even taken one you know what I’m talking about!) It has to be changing the shape of your body, right?
What an amazing giveaway!
I’ve never tried a barre method class but have wanted to and have heard great things about Physique57. I’m a runner and a yogi so barre would make complete the trifecta!
I had never tried a barre class until a friend told me about Physique 57. I think Physique 57 is one of the best workouts that I’ve ever done! I did the Bridal Countdown before my wedding, and I’ve never felt or looked as good. I am definitely hooked and I plan to keep up my Physique classes for years to come! I’ve run 4 marathons, and nothing compares to this exercise class!
I LOVE core fusion at Exhale- it’s my favorite. I have seen results from taking these classes regularly.
I LOVE barre classes! I used to be a dancer so these exercises not only work, but make me still enjoy the conditioning that I used to have all the time. It’s amazing how you can see the results and I think they will be a trend that stays.
I LOVE physique 57′s barre classes! They are easy techniques to learn but really work and challenge your muscles. They have helped me to strengthen my legs after recovering from an injury and really helped to to sculpt my arms without giving me bulk. I would love to win this class package so I can go even more and I am also following you on twitter!
I just tweeted as well :)
Great giveaway! I’ve tried Core Fusion, Bar Method and Physique 57. While my favorite is Core Fusion, I’d love to give Physique 57 another chance. I love the way that I feel after a bar class and I’m convinced that attending these classes regularly is the reason why I had such an easy pregnancy. I have friended you on facebook.
I’ve never taken a barre class but have always wanted to. I’ve heard amazing things about Physique 57!
I love this as a giveaway! Thanks for highlighting this amazing class. I have always walked out of a class feeling invigorated and ready to take on anything. I’m a friend on facebook as well!
Great way to get people motivated to stay fit in the new year! I’ve tried Core Fusion and the Nalini Method and loved them. For years I’ve been hearing about Physique 57 so now’s my chance to try it out and compare. We’ve been friends on FB and tweeting together for a while. I look forward to being able to experience the barre.
I need a jumpstart for 2011 and this class seems to be the right recipe!
Love Physique! Just did a class this morning… great way to start the week!
I LOVE BARRE CLASSES! It is a total body challenge that increases your flexibility like no other. I’ve tried several methods of class and am about to install a bar at home to be able to get in some workouts when I don’t have time to visit a studio. Absolutely love it!
I LOVE Barre classes — I spent my childhood in ballet and jazz class and my body was long, lean and powerful. Barre work made me feel beautiful, and still does. As I look to recapture that feeling, I’m returning to barre class, but haven’t yet found the proper mix of affordable and effective. There is nothing like it.
What a great contest – perfect for the new year! I have never taken a barre class, but I have heard amazing things about Physique 57.
I love barre classes as well! I have done Core Fusion, Bar Method and Physique and still find them to be extremely challenging, but I have found that they help to balance out my workout during the week (vs heavy running/cardio). I just wish I was able to afford to take them regularly b/c it definitely seems that they would be body transforming if done once or more per week!
Hey, if it is free, I am in… I really like barre classes, they are the most challenging classes for me to take. Two classes are offered at my gym, but the times do not work for me. I went to the Bar Method Soho, thanks to Well and Good and I loved it there. I have heard great things abt Physique 57, so I would love to check it out. Thanks!
I love Physique 57! I never understood what it was like to be “addicted” to a workout until I got into this. It’s intense but the feeling afterwards is the best, not to mention the fast results you get. Best workout in NYC!
i have not yet attended a class but i am absolutely dying to! i have heard only the most amazing things about firm every part of your body becomes after just a few classes. i also love the idea of not running but still being completely sore after one class. i personally have a bad back and week knees so anything to intense doesn’t work for me! pick me!!!
Physique 57 changed my life. As a working Mom, I needed a class that would target all my body parts in a fun, uplifting and challenging way. After the birth of my second child, I took two Physique classes and fit into my normal, pre-pregnancy jeans. I haven’t stopped since then! Even though I can only get there one or two times a week, I maintain my strength and body shape successfully! I love Physique57!!!
I tried a few classes at P57 and was amazed at how challenging they were. As someone who takes more traditional “boot camp” type classes in the gym, I thought “How hard can it be when you’re in your SOCKS on a CARPET?” However, the isolation and repetition of muscles is really amazing…I think I got a better workout using 3 lb weights in this class than I have w/ 10 times that amount at the gym! If it wasn’t so pricey I would be all about it.
I’ve tried Physique 57 and exhale core fusion classes. I recently also tried yogaworks BarWorks. Physique packs 57 minutes of great music, moves and instruction. I haven’t been to P57 recently but would love to give it another go!
I have never taken a barre class, but find myself doing random acts of ballet like leg lifts and such around the house and I have always admired the strength and grace of dancers
I am following on twitter. @beingtricia
I like on facebook
I’ve never taken a barre class as an adult – but I’d love to! I’m always looking for new ways to mix up my routine…AND maybe it will help me get over the trauma inflicted from ballet classes in my youth…
I love barre class — especially Physique 57. I’m dripping sweat within 5 minutes of class starting… so I know I’m doing my body good! I highly recommend it!
I love barre classes. My wife has been a loyal physique 57 user since the summer. She loves it and it as helped her lose weight and provided an excellent overall exercise regimen.
I’ve been doing Physique for about a year now and love it! Its the first workout method that I dont get tired of and quit within a week. Ive also tried other classes such as the Bar Method and Exhale, but Physique is by far my favorite! Such a great workout.
I’ve never taken a barre class and am totally uncoordinated, but I would love to try!
I am totally in love with Barre classes! I started at Physique57 and now my spin studio offers barre classes too! P57 is incredibly tough but you see results fast!
I absolutely love the classes at Physique. My friend got me into them and I”m totally obsessed. I’m up to 4 days a week and literally see my body changing with every passing week! I think anyone who wants to see results should try it!
I am OBSESSED with physique 57. It is the only class that has produced significant results for me. I am a huge fan of the physique barre method, and highly recommend it. I have encouraged all of my friends to take the classes, and they all love it as well. I have taken other fitness classes from spin, to kickboxing, and one on one with a personal trainer, and honestly physique is the only class that i walk out of each and every top with every muscle group feeling fully worked out and trained. It is a high energy mix of cardio, weight training, and using your own resistance, and it carves out your muscles in ways I never thought imaginable. The instructors and staff are warm, welcoming, and always willing to go the extra mile to help. I am a die hard fan, and really encourage everyone who hasn’t tried it to give it a shot, especially with the newcomer 2 for 1 classes special!
I love this workout! For my 30th birthday, I splurged and treated myself to a 6 month unlimited membership and that will be up in a week. Except for the 3 weeks I had a bad sinus infection, I have been going on average 6 times a week. I’m not sure what I’m going to do without! I do have the DVDs but it’s just not the same!
I am a Physique 57 Junkie!!!! I am absolutely infatuated with the barre method. After the new member unlimited month special, I knew i was addicted. For Christmas my boss even bought me Physique 57 classes!!! I can feel the high energy as soon as I walk into the room and the music is blasting and we begin to march. What I love most about the class is how fun it is, the hour seems to fly by even during water ski when my thighs are practically trembling and I feel like I can’t go on, I some how up muster up the strength to press on. Regardless of whether you are in the LA studio or either New York locations, all of the instructors are soo friendly and accommodating! I can’t wait for another great year with Physique and to get all of my friends and family hooked!!!
This has changed my body and the way that I feel about myself- enough said!
I just tweeted!!! @CallaisWolfe :)
I haven’t tried Physique 57 but I am more than up for the challenge! What a great way to start off the new year! Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway, Well+Good NYC!
I’ve tried Physique 57 NYC classes and DVDs, Pure Barre DVDs and the Barre 3 DVD… Physique 57 beats the others hands down- their NYC classes are the best classes out there!
Great giveaway. I love barre classes. It is an amazing all over body workout that makes me sore in every part of my body. There’s nothing like the shaking feeling during thigh work to make you feel like it’s working. I follow you and Twitter and am your friend on Facebook.
Never tried Barre, but heard great things about it and Physique 57!! Pick me! Pick me!
I’ve never tried the Barre class, but I am trying to find new ways to start a fitness routine, get in shape, lose weight and have FUN while doing so.
I’ve tried barre classes at core fusion and the bar method and love that I get a great total body workout that I don’t get from any other workout! I would love to try a class at physique 57 since I’ve heard such great things!!
I consider myself much than a barre afficionado and junkie. I will do a plie on a fence if I am in an area where there is no barre studio. I have even been know to do the infamous “waterski” position alongside a horse pasture at out summer home. Barre classes in conjunction wil mild cardio will produce insane results. No questions asked. The body is there as proof!
I really want to give this a try! Looks awesome~ :)
I’m a runner, spinner and yoga enthusiast. I would love to add this to help my core strength as it would be beneficial to my other activities!!
A friend of mine at home in Massachusetts takes a barre class called “Secret Physique” and she always raves about it. I’ve never been able to try it with her, but I would love to see what it’s all about!
Hi-
I love these classes and how I feel every time I leave them. It pushes me each and every time and I look forward to each class and the new routines each time.
I tried a class at the Bar Method. I used to dance ballet and I really miss it. The Bar Method was a great class, and I did walk out feeling a bit taller, which, at 5’1″, is a great feeling! I love the ab work, and a longer, leaner and more graceful body is something I want to achieve. Alas, I can’t afford to take continuous classes. This is truly a great workout, especially for those who hate repetitive cardio work! Happy 2011 everyone!!!
I’ve never tried it. I’m usuall;y up for something new.
This would be my first time trying Physique 57, but I have been referred to the classes by so many people! I have tried other barre method classes, and pilates, and saw such great results–I would love to see what Physique can do. Thank you Well+Good!!
I haven’t tried a barre class, but I’ve been dying to. This would be a great motivator!
Sounds interesting. I am always looking for a new challenge.
I’ve tried barre classes a few times now and it remains difficult but amazing! So different from your normal gym classes…
I have tried a barre class once but cant splurge for a package. I love how the classes combine pilates, dance and yoga moves. What a great giveaway….thanks!!
Physique 57 is the only workout that takes the barre
Method to the next level, giving your body and mind immediate results. As a new years resolution, I am hoping to maintain a svelte physique and what better way to achieve this than by attending the physique 57 classes and I hear the formula 57 class is even more of a challenge. Hoping to win – crossing my halfway-limber legs!!!
I’ve never tried a barre class, but I’m dying to! I’ve wanted to take a Physique 57 class for so long, and now is the perfect time. My workout really needs a boost!
Approaching the barre is like entering a cathedral through the back door. It’s timeless and awe-inspiring–you know where this type of commitment can lead–but also grounding. You approach the barre and mirror with a mixture of excitement and trepidation: here is your body with its strengths and injuries, with its limitations but also with its ability to follow a sequence of movements, to respond to music–to simply be a body in space. I love how elegant and quiet barre work looks, how it belongs to a long tradition of discipline and attention to beauty. I enjoy watching my reflection as I take class, not because I’m graceful, or particularly fit, but precisely because I’m not. At the barre, I won’t fall down, but I also won’t be perfect, and neither matters because barre work isn’t a performance, it’s honest practice, and I look forward to that centered feeling, whether it be in my basic ballet class or at Physique57, that can be translated as “Here is good work being done, and look at what this body can do.” Neither a runner’s high nor a final Sivasana can rival that calm, simple sense of balance.
I’ve tried core fusion before and loved it. I went for only 2 weeks but saw great results. No other type of class produced results in such a short timeframe so I’m dying to try Physique 57!
I love barre classes. Physique 57 is way better than the bar method. It really does give you a cardio and pushes you to work your major muscle groups. The stretching helps elongates your muscles and you can feel yourself getting stronger. It’s the best type of workout I’ve found.
Would love to try a barre fitness class – I love ballet classes and this sounds like a fun, fit twist on them
I’ve never taken a barre class before, but after seeing some of your posts about them, I really want to try! One of my resolutions for 2011 is to try new fitness classes, especially dance classes, so this would would a great start :)
I am a little late, but just wanted to write a comment. Barre classes really humble me. No matter how strong I am feeling, a bar class always manages to challenge me and make me realize there are many small muscles in my body that I never focus on when working out. Barre classes are a great compliment to running, cycling, and any sport. Taking these classes makes me wish I was a dancer, which I am definitely not!
This contest is closed! We’re picking a winner now. Stay tuned…
And the winner is…..Amanda!!! She’s been contacted via e-mail and we’re hoping she’ll share her Physique 57 adventures with us!
Thanks everyone for entering and for all the terrific and inspiring comments.
I’ve never tried barre but would love to get on board. Is it pathetic that I’m inspired by the whole Black Swan/ballet fad? Though this sounds a little harder than your average plié…
I’m gone to inform my little brother, that he should also pay a quick visit this webpage on regular basis to get updated from most recent information.
