I could definitely use a gym oasis. My job has had me working the last 5 weekends in a row, plus many random nights. Plus, I am trying to keep up with my marathon schedule, fundraising, and fitness blog writing–oh yeah and that social life!
A month at class would allow me to multitask by giving me fun things to write about for my fitness blog and column. I’m definitely in a gym routine rut–if I am not in a class, I just hit the elliptical–and a personal training session might help me learn to use time and equipment more effectively! Plus the massage would take care of the marathon training aches and pains!
Thanks for this amazing opportunity.
Clay sounds great. Thanks for the chance to win time there!
I live in Manhattan and in Water Mill (Hamptons) and have been a spinning instructor and now own my own studio out east. So on Thursday evenings I drive out east so I can be there to teach and lead classes on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, drive back in Monday mornings where I work my day job as a Creative Director in a huge ad agency in midtown. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, I get up at 6:00am, take the dog to Central park, sometimes we run depending on weather for about an hour and a half, and then i come back home at Bryant Park, drop off dog and go right to Crunch on 38th Street for weight training and other CORE techniques to keep me abreast of the most cutting edge techniques for my side business. Spending long hours at work, I tend to eat very well, however, I do not get enough food to consume during the day and evening as it is difficult to have 5 small meals in one day which is how I like to eat and have found this to be the best way to maintain my metabolism. My problem is, given I teach so many classes which on the Real-Ryder bikes that I have, I burn up to 700-900 calories in one class and on two days of the weekend, I teach back to back classes so even though I incorporate wrist weights into the classes and continue for 15 minutes after class on the floor to maintain the muscle mass, I lose a ton of upper body muscle as expected.
I live in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan. I enjoy morning workouts but unfortunately can only run or bike to Prospect Park near me as there isn’t a local gym or yoga studio near my apartment. My work schedule also can get crazy as I often work events into the evenings and sometimes on weekends. Over the next month I have six events to produce and 4 weddings to attend (including one in Mexico–hello bathing suit!)
When I am taking care of myself (and not working excessive hours) I bike in Prospect Park, do Tracy Anderson (DVDs) at home, do yoga in Park Slope, Tribeca and Williamsburg, spin in midtown, and get acupuncture in the w. vill.
I would adore an oasis moment to help kick me into gear for the fall and up my energy levels through the change of season.
Every couple of weeks I run-commute from my apartment in Brooklyn to my gym in the Flatiron. Once I’m there, I stretch and shower and then head to my holistic doctor’s office for PT or acupuncture (I have back and hamstring issues). Once the appointment is over – I head uptown to my office. It makes for a hectic morning, but I’ve found that run-commuting (vs. taking the subway) is often faster and less of a hassle. Plus, I can double task and fit in my daily 7+ mile run! I’m not very good about doing core work, stretching, or strengthening on my own and membership to Clay (plus the massage and pilates session!) would help me become stronger and more flexible. I just signed up for the 2012 Boston Marathon and would like to get to the starting line injury free!
I need an OASIS! I get facials on the East side, accupuncture in Union Square, massages wherever I can fit one in and I ride my bike to and fro… It is stressful! I need a zen retreat with nurturing cohesive practitioners to help me put together this puzzle of health and wellness. Please, pick me!
I would LOVE to try Clay. I have currently been stuck in a routine of running on the treadmill at my gym with the occasional barre and yoga classes on the side. To be able to do this all in one zen-like club, would be wonderful! I have also always been interested in joining CLAY and this would be a great opportunity for me to see what it’s like!
I need an Oasis! From North to South: I live in Harlem, do cardio in my building on 145th Street, work in the East 90′s, do yoga in the West 70′s, inline skate in central park, go to acupuncture in Union Square, and attend dance rehearsals in the West Village. Trying to deal with some health problems wholistically, I’m seeing Dr’s uptown, midtown, and downtown. Admidst it all, I go out of my way all over the city for a healthy, organic meal-on-the-go, and stop into what ever nail salon I pass by in transit for a mani-pedi and a 10-minute massage. I’d love to check in at CLAY and never leave!
This sounds AMAZING. I walk my commute (across the Manhattan or Brooklyn Bridge) to the subway to midtown, and often I will take 3 trains at 6 am to a 7 am yoga class in the East Village, then jump the subway downtown to my gym’s only Manhattan location to shower, then back on the train to midtown for work -all by 9:30 am (hopefully…). I feel like I spend half my life running around on subways with a yoga mat or a huge backpack of running stuff so I can run Central Park after work, which always makes me the smelly sweaty girl on the train :)
A year ago, I had a baby. Before the baby, I was a fitness and wellness enthusiast. Although I live in the Union Square area – actually very close to Clay – I would go to midtown for my favorite barre class, uptown for my favorite spin class, get acupuncture in Murray Hill and go to a spa in Soho. I thought I would be able to maintain that schedule as a working mom and unfortunately, once my maternity leave came to a close I realized I was kidding only myself! Right now for my fitness I am not doing very much – I get to those favorite classes sporadically but certainly not enough – and I am feeling pretty bummed about it – I think I need the endorphins back in my life and the passport to Clay, with all of it’s great services near my home, could be just waht I need. Please pick me – I have held on to my slightly tight pre-baby wardrobe as a pipe dream. Please help me fit back in my clothes!
WOW! This email spoke to me! I do not currently belong to a gym and make myself crazy on a daily basis as to when/where/who/what/why my workout will be. I am officially tired. :) I bought a passbook at the beginning of 2011 that includes yoga, pilates and various other classes. I’ve joined sites that allow you pick and choose if you pay a monthly fee. I’ve bought classes on various flash sites I havent even used yet! Barre classes in midtown, acupuncture in Gramercy and forget even trying to find a nutritionist, which I need badly. I could really use a zen month at Clay to get it all figured out and besides– it’s right near my office. It would feel like a vacation. I would be grateful for the offerings and the serenity. Not to mention the burn of a great workout! I’m sold. xo

HELP! Put me back together. :)

Please pick me! I do my cardio and weight training on the upper east side then i subway it down to union square to take spin class. i work from 8 am to about 6pm at night and am burnt out with my routine so need something new. in addition to that i am pregnant and want to stay in shape with whatever energy i have left from work, etc.
I need to spend time regaining my yoga practice and need a new facialist and restart that self care too!!!
Help! I trek all the way to the Lower East Side to get facials (when i have enough time!); the Flatiron District to practice yoga and the West Village for the gym. As a working mom, it is no wonder I rarely have time to actually sit at my desk (in the Meatpacking District) and actually work!
Winning this contest would be such a wonderful treat!
A normal week tends to look like this although depending on the day sometimes I substitute one class for another but usually:
Monday – Physique 57 on 57th St near work
Tuesday – SLT also on 57th St. (just tried it for the first time last week, so hard!)
Wednesday – Soul Cycle Union Sq!
Thursday – Bari in Tribeca. Love it.
Friday – Barry’s Bootcamp in Chelsea. Also love.
Saturday/Sunday – some variation on the above and usually take one day off.
Other favorite wellness spots are:
Yamuna in the West Village for body rolling
Jivamuktea Cafe in Union Square for delicious vegan yogi bowl.
Liquiteria for juices in East village
Love Your Transformation in Korea Town for colonics.
Organic Avenue for cleanses
Keisy in East Village for massages
Despite all of that the battle of the bulge/maintaining a healthy lifestyle never stops being hard! Would love to try the hallowed healthy halls of Clay, especially as the seasons turn and I find myself struggling for motivation.
I live in Harlem and work in the Flatiron, running a high volume restaurant, resulting in very unconventional hours. My fitness regime has me running all over the city. My typical commute to my workout takes 45 minutes- from Harlem to the following spots: Prana Power Yoga in Union Square, Soul Cycle in Tribeca or Union Square and then the various Crunch locations in the city. My coworkers call me a “bag lady” because I often show up to work with 3 bags- my regular bag, workout bag, then another bag with cycling cleats, running shoes or a yoga mat. Having one place to get a workout, relax then prepare for work would be amazing!!
I wasn’t sure if this contest was limited to those living in NYC, but if it is, then please accept my peaceful appeal on behalf of our suburban brethren. I awake at 5:45 each morning, greet the world with some sun-salutations, and head off to my job as a 9th grade English teacher, where I weave life lessons into our reading of classic literature. During my free periods I walk or read about well-being. On the way home I pick up my son from pre-school, and make it in time to shoot some hoops for 30 minutes before getting my daughter off the bus. Then it really begins! Washing-up, changing clothes, snacks, homework, Ninjutsu classes, art shows, etc. In between I bust out some calisthenics, Hindu push-ups and squats. I split the cooking duties with my wife, clean up, do the dishes and take out the garbage before the sun sets. A quick shower and change of clothes and I’m off to teach (happily) yoga at either at our studio or for an organization that caters to the autistic/mentally challenged population. Though I could never bring myself to complain about the busy, blessed life I’m living, I could surely use a day of relaxation, growth and reflection. Thank you. Namaste.
Wow, this looks amazing! Right now for my workouts I am running in my neighborhood, traveling to another neighborhood for karate, and doing a yoga DVD to fill the days that I don’t have it in me to travel. It would be really fantastic to be able to go to Clay and workout in one location! I would LOVE to win this esp since the weather is about to take a turn to the cold. One stop exercise would be amazing.
Thanks!
As a fitness instructor, I run all over the city from Harlem to Battery Park, teaching spin, Barre, and total body conditioning classes – sometimes as many as 5 formats in 5 different locations per day! I would love to center myself for a month at CLAY and receive care, instruction, and inspiration that I can ultimately pass onto my students.
To go to one studio for all in and of itself sounds like a meditation or maybe a dream…I have quit my memberships at anywhere that is too far by train, as the time consumed coming and going eventually was not practical. This was learned the hard way. One facility sounds like an imagined idyllic spa, a vacation and an amazing opportunity to achieve what the body, mind and soul yearn for all in one.
I live in Inwood, way up top in Manhattan. I start my day off with a fresh juice and meditation practice at home on 200th st. Then I take the A train to 14th St and 8th and walk to 17th and 2nd for a little morning exercise. I work full time as a social worker integrating psychotherapy with gentle yoga and meditaion at a hospital, treating women with disabilities. During lunch I book it to NYSC on 23rd and Lex for a run on the treadmill. I then order lunch from Lucky Duck on 17th/Irving and pick it up because it’s the only organic place in the neighborhood and doesn’t deliver. If I didn’t make it to the gym during lunch, then after work I take a yoga class at NY Loves Yoga on W. 83rd st, or go for a swim at the JCC on W, 76th st. Then back home to 200th st. One night/week I volunteer at Beth Israel Medical Center on 16th and 1st providing yoga therapy on the surgical ward. Once/month I get a massage at Manhattan Sports Medicine on 58th and Park after work. And once/month I teach a yoga workshop at The Yoga Collective on West. 29th st. As I write this, it sure seems like a lot!
I live on the UWS but work in the Flatiron district. In addition to that commute I also have to fit the following into my days: Physical Therapy and chiropractic once a week near grand central, Salsa dance class once a week on 8th & 36th, yoga once a week on 125th and Frederick Douglass Blvd and also once a week on 94th & Bway. On weekends I try to fit in a quick workout at my neighborhood gym on 80th & Bway when I’m not working events or too pooped from the rest of the week…
I just spent the last week freelancing in advertising. The industry alone makes me want to run for an Oasis! If that’s not enough, I just got finished training for my 6th half marathon and trying to get to Central Park on a Saturday morning from Brooklyn when the L train isn’t working, that’s enough to need a anything one-stop.
This sounds amazing!
My fitness routine involves yoga on the Lower East Side, gym classes wherever I can get a living social/groupon deal, exercise DVDs at home, jogging around my neighborhood, biking through the city smog in place of a proper spinning class, acupuncture in Flat Iron and massage in the East Village. This is enough traveling around on my bike that it’s a workout on it’s own – oh but how I’d still love to be able to actually do spinning classes on top of that. In addition to all this, I’m trying to squeeze in daily fitness with working part-time and going to school for a PhD full-time. I probably need time to sleep too… A (temporary) membership to CLAY would be a dream for so many reasons, including cutting down commuting time between all my various wellness activities and that CLAY is located right by my school and work. I would immediately be able to find more fun things to do with the extra time! (Like sleep!)
This sounds fantastic! What a beautiful space. I am currently doing “Guerrilla” workouts at home which include running the stairs, jump roping, and using anything handy for weights. I no longer have a gym membership and really miss having a location other than my home to exercise. This package would be an amazing way to get me on back on track with attending a gym and continuing to explore wellness.
Thanks!!!!
Thank goodness for MTA’s unlimited pass otherwise I would be spending as much on on subway rides as I spend at Wholefoods! After work I zip downtown from the office in midtown to YogaWorks in Soho. Then its a hop, skip & a jump to Organic Avenue for a post-class juice, followed by a long walk home. Lunchtimes are spent walking in Central Park or taking a class at Physique 57. I jump back on the subway and head over to Union Square for my weekly acupuncture appointment. Saturdays are spent biking the Brooklyn Bridge before the tourists arrive en masse and if I want to treat myself I will head to Opal Massage in Park Slope for a well-deserved massage. Sunday is for sleep and dreams about becoming a member of Clay!
I work 3 days a week in Philadelphia, which means 4 days a week I try and cram in everything possible. Which includes treks from Brooklyn where I live to the West Side Highway and the Brooklyn Bridge for boot camp classes, Tribeca for Pilates, the UES, Tribeca or Flatiron for spinning and whatever random NYSC I am closest to for weights and some treadmill time. I would love for a month to have one place to go and get all of that in. Plus a massage, training session and nutritionist session? That sounds like a little piece of heaven.
Growing up in Maui, Hawaii I was surrounded by an abundance of health and wellness. I moved to NYC three years ago to study theater and I love discovering all the awesome things this city has to offer to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Because I am a student I am also on BUDGET. My favorite work out in the city (so far) is Soul Cycle which I’ve gotten to experience a few times. I dance six hours a week at school. I frequent Yoga to the People but have officially fallen in love with Yoga Vida where I go at least twice a week. When I can’t fit in/ afford a class I go to the gym. I’ve also taken advantage of many a free opportunity: the Refine Method (which rocked!!), Crunch week pass, Lululemon community classes, and more. I also try to take advantage of any deals I can get: I did an organic avenue cleanse this summer (hoping to do another one soon) and I have a class pass for the Studio on the UES. I love juicing, I got one for my birthday last year so I do that daily and collect my veggie’s from all over (whole foods, the green market, Smorgasburg). On occasion I treat myself to an Organic Avenue juice or my favorite juice at Liquiteria: all greens with one apple. Basically my health and fitness are all across the board everywhere and anywhere, however, the one thing I am ALWAYS sure to do is check wellandgood every day to read up and whats new in the fitness and health world. Lastly, I’ve never gotten to try acupuncture but I dream of the day.
This pass to Clay would be the ultimate treat and I would make sure to use it to its fullest potential!!
Hi Well+Good! As a graduate student, it sure is hard for me to even AFFORD being physically fit in NYC. I can’t afford to belong to a gym, so over this past year, I’ve traveled all over Manhattan using as many Groupon or Living Social or free day/week passes as possible. By this point, I have my schtick down whenever someone at a gym/yoga studio/pilates studio asks me if I’d be interested in joining or buying a monthly membership. I’m currently studying Vocal Performance, so I know I need to be physically fit to make it in the business. Thus, it’s really been getting me down that everything here is so expensive and so difficult to get to from my apartment in Brooklyn. I’d love to win!
I live on Staten Island and depend on public transportation. It’s not the best way to get around and none of my practitioners are in the same neighborhood so nothing happens on the same day. I’m also a health coach who sees clients in Manhattan so working out there would be so much easier!
Monday – podiatrist
Tuesday – school & acupuncture
Wednesday – school & pilates
Thursday – school & client
Friday – acupuncture
Saturday – yoga
Sunday – massage
Please help simplify my life.
CONGRATULATIONS TO WORKING MAMA WHO WAS OUR GRAND PRIZE WINNER!! SHE’S PROMISED TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCE AT THE END OF HER MONTH AT CLAY. THANK YOU ALL FOR ENTERING!
