Spin & Strong: A new workout combines spin and strength training

spin-arianeSpinning produces sweat—and svelteness. But it doesn’t do much for overall strength.

So, with her latest iteration of Slim & Strong, a month-long indoor boot camp that pairs spinning with serious strength training, trainer extraordinaire Ariane Hundt is onto something major. We’d expect nothing less from the fitness innovator who turned the Brooklyn Bridge into a jungle gym.

Starting tomorrow night, Hundt’s popular indoor evening boot camp will have you climbing hills and doing sprints on a spin bike to a motivating fat-burning soundtrack—in between drills with resistance bands, heavy weights, and a killer 8-minute donkey kick series. Why didn’t someone think of this sooner?

The results-oriented program meets twice a week at a super-nice yet neglected Gold’s Gym spin studio in downtown Brooklyn. It has plenty of room for pushups in front of your Schwinn. (The bikes aren’t the high-performance ones you’d see at Flywheel or SoulCycle, but they’re new, and don’t require spin shoes.)

Spin & Strong comes with before and after measurements—including how much fat you’ve converted to muscle—and photos, a fat-burning diet program, and lots of supportive emails and perks.

When Melisse did Slim & Strong, she dropped three percent body fat—and gained mucho muscle tone! And we can’t think of a better time of year for an immersion fitness program.

Available during the evening session of Slim & Strong only (November 29–December 20, 2011; Tue/Thu 6:30–7:45 pm). To sign up, visit www.brooklynbridgebootcamp.com. Classes start tomorrow. Next round starts January 3rd (Tue/Thu 6:30–7:45 pm)
