I've been making my own tofu, soy milk, soy yogurt and even soy cream cheese, for many, MANY, years. Most people don't know what to do with it or how to prep it for cooking. It really is delicious if you handle it properly. I'm not a vegetarian but we have Chili Fried Tofu almost once a week in our house. It's addictive!
The tofu in the stores is not as good as home made and some of it is down right stinky and rubberish!
