The world’s most expensive running skirt

running skirt

We didn’t pay much attention to Nike’s ongoing collaboration with Japanese designer Jun Takahashi because, until this season, it was just for men.

But for spring 2012, Nike x Undercover Gyakusou (yep, that’s the apparel line’s super-catchy name) is launching its first collection for women runners.

The goal is to marry Nike’s technical functionality with Takahashi’s traditional craftsmanship and trend-setting style. (Takahashi, if you’ve never heard of him, created the upscale street-inspired label Undercover, which has a cult following in Japan. He’s also a devoted runner.)

And the price tag reflects this ambitious undertaking. The running skirts pictured above will set you back $170.

The convertible skirt has pleating for “total freedom of movement,” and we like the skirt’s slim silhouette despite the pleats. The drawn-from-nature colors are a welcome antidote to this season’s neon overload.

Still, at this price, Nike should probably throw in a personal running coach with purchase.
