On Sunday night, prominent yogis and their chic supporters gathered at Indochine in Noho to mingle and raise funds for Bent on Learning‘s yoga programs in New York City schools.
Among the yogic philanthropists represented were Bent on Learning co-founder Jennifer Ford, Ashtanga master Eddie Stern, Russell Simmons and his Czech-model girlfriend Lenka Dayrit, Lady Gaga’s yoga teacher Tricia Donegan, and actor Bobby Cannavale.
In addition to an extensive silent auction, participants bid on yoga mats that had been painted and sculpted by artists like Evan Yee, Rodney Yee‘s son.
Susie Lopez, a Bent on Learning board member and creator of Look Up Yoga, said that the organization was proud of its continuing commitment to providing yoga classes for 3,300 students in the New York City school system each week.
“Kids face so many pressures and demands,” Lopez said. “Yoga gives them a sense of empowerment—they learn how to do the poses, meditation, breathing—and then they can take that home with them.”
Now, who could argue with that?

I am a public school teacher at a school located in the East Harlem section of Manhattan.I have read articles about the great work you are doing in the public schools and wanted to find out how we can become a participating school.
This is something I have discussed with the pr
incipal and she is also vet eager to have this program available to our community.
Please feel free to contact me.
