This Week in Wellness: Nike’s new store, Serena Williams’ cooling towel, and more
Welcome to our weekly roundup of wellness news we’ve spotted and reported throughout the week. Our Page Six!
Nike opened its largest store for runners in New York yesterday, Nike Running Flatiron, at 156 Fifth Avenue (between 20th and 21st Sts.). The megastore will feature iPad gait analysis, a free evening run club with coach Margot Fleming—and a customer service trend that we love: free and secure bag storage anytime. But is the focus on running a good sales strategy in a neighborhood that’s become the land of boutique fitness?
Westin Hotels & Resorts announced a partnership with New Balance, where hotel guests can pay a $5 fee to rent workout gear like sneakers (with disposable insoles!), tanks, pants, and accessories. This is so much cooler than mini shampoos and will free up space in your carry-on for another pair of summer wedges.
Serena Williams helped create a new workout towel that “instantly cools when wet with water or sweat.” The Mission Enduracool Instant Cooling Towel says it cools from 100 to 59 degrees in 60 seconds, which sounds awesome, but also makes us wonder: what the heck is it made out of?
Fitness openings galore: Crunch opened its 11th location in Hell’s Kitchen—a three-story former Gold’s Gym. A brand-new player stepped onto the spinning scene: Revolve Fitness will open its first studio in Union Square this fall and is already planning more locations. And boutique fitness fave Refine Method announced a third location on the Upper West Side to open this summer.
Tata Harper and Organic Avenue joined forces to debut a new juice and skin-care cleanse combo. The 3-day Love Beauty Cleanse is meant to detox your inside and out.
Michelin-starred healthy hotspot Rouge Tomate launched SPE, a program that will help chefs across the country create (and certify) nutritionally balanced menu items.
More than a dozen of New York’s best chefs (think ABC Kitchen’s Dan Kluger and Locanda Verde’s Karen DeMasco) are participating in a Cookies for Kids Cancer charity bake sale on July 7 in Amagansett. Thankfully, BluePrint Cleanse will be dispensing its fruit-and-nut bars, as well.
And if you eat too many cookies, head to the Surf Lodge, where SLT Yoga, Shred, and Box and Tone classes start this Saturday, June 30.
