My big, juicy goal for 2013: Norma Kamali
New Year’s Resolutions are a bit of a cliche and can be easy to break. And yet, setting goals and intentions in January is a great way to gear yourself up for the year, ensuring you’re moving forward and living your best life.
We checked in with wellness celebrities to see what big, juicy goals they’re setting for 2013. Perhaps their ambitions will inspire yours.
Fashion designer and wellness advocate
Looking ahead to 2013, my goal is to shed light on an issue that’s all around us: objectification.
As a fashion designer since 1967, I’ve seen countless women taken under by feeling not pretty enough, thin enough, or in the right fashion. I’m very much aware that all women have self-esteem issues and images issues—including me.
I wondered why we are so easily undone, and I realize now that objectification is the main reason. Not all women share the same life experience, but every single one of us is objectified. We’ve been keeping our embarrassment and humiliation a secret…not aware how it continues to affect our psyches.
We need to turn objectification into empowerment. To begin, let’s deal with our bodies and self-image. I want women to tell their stories of objectification through my campaign, and inspire others to do the same. Let 2013 be the start to Stop Objectification! I wish New Yorkers all the best wishes for 2013.
