Pure Yoga, SoulCycle, and Lululemon team up for an unconventional triathlon

Pure Yoga and SoulCycleOn Sunday, March 24, the Upper West Side is hosting a “triathlon” you may not have even realized you were already training for.

The event, PUREfy Your Soul, invites fitness types to consecutively run, ride, and Om—with a Lululemon-led run through Central Park, a SoulCycle spin class, and yoga at Pure Yoga West.

“We really had a desire to build a community of Upper West Side athletes, especially since we have so many great studios within such a small area,” says Pure Yoga West’s general manager Jennifer Aloisi.

It’s a smart idea, and one we’re surprised more boutique fitness spots haven’t taken advantage of, especially for workout buffs who can see themselves pushing through a tough day of classes but don’t have the time or desire to commit to, well, the real thing.

“Running, cycling, and yoga is the perfect trifecta of cardio, full-body strengthening, and toning,” Aloisi says (and it’s a lot easier than swimming a mile).

The studios have tapped their star teachers for the event: Christine Kenney will lead the run, Sue Molnar will teach the spin class, and Pure’s Kay Kay Clivio will get people moving on their mats. The event is free (gasp!), but will be capped at 51 people on a first-come, first-serve basis, with a wait list.

There will also be to-be-announced refreshments at the end, to reward participants after a long day of calorie burning.

As for crossing the finish line? The day is about getting there together and having a great time, not competing Aloisi says. “It won’t be timed. The most important element is for the participants to have fun.” That doesn’t mean, of course, that you can’t pat yourself on the back for pedaling faster than the person next to you. —Lisa Elaine Held
