Brooklyn’s boutique fitness scene takes off

1 of 8
With small studios popping up all over New York’s hippest outer borough, the Brooklyn boutique fitness scene is finally starting to get its legs.

That the scene is booming is no thanks to the Physiques and Flywheels who’ve opened in Boca and L.A. before debuting studios in Brooklyn.

Maybe because they know better?

Brooklyn loves indie businesses (from restaurants to yoga studios), and the borough’s new serious fitness scene reflects that ethos—led by young, toned, tattooed women. (Don’t expect to spot a hipster in a SoulCycle tee.)

Here are a few of the most happening fitness spots across East River.
