Roller skating renaissance: Stylish skates from Five Stride Skate Shop

1 of 8
Two years ago, Drew Barrymore popularized the bad-ass world of Roller Derby with Whip It. This summer, Uniqlo opened a roller skating rink beneath the High Line.

Roller skates are cool again. And Five Stride Skate Shop is the hub of New York City's skating renaissance.

The Williamsburg store is the city's only full-service roller skate shop and a congregation spot for the Gotham Girls Roller Derby, which its owners, Nicole Williams and Danielle Flowers, compete in.

Haven’t skated since your 14th birthday party? No worries. “Roller skating is just like riding a bike,” says Williams. “It comes back quickly.”

We found five chic pairs of skates at Five Stride that you'll want to show off beneath a disco ball (or find under a holiday tree).
